The Summer of Needlepoint
Hobbies and what is on my summer needlepoint wishlist!
This is my first summer with a hobby! Like so many others, I discovered needlepoint on TikTok and instantly became captivated by it. From the colorful fibers to the wide variety of canvases, there is something for everyone to stitch!
I’ve never had a hobby before, although my mother is an avid hobbyist. When I was in elementary school, her hobbies were cooking and baking the yummiest meals and treats, and paper mache (which was always fun to play with, thanks to the paper, flour, and glue). When I was in high school and early college, she took up painting. Now, in my late 20s, her hobbies include beading jewelry and furniture restoration. She is quite the hobby lover and dedicates herself to mastering each new craft. My father, on the other hand, has a single hobby: working, mostly on our family coffee farm.
I have tried to pick up hobbies. In the past, I’ve attempted embroidery, quilting, and reading, and even miserably failed at juggling (does that count as a hobby?). Unfortunately, none of them have stuck. But then I found needlepoint, and I am hoping it stays. Not only is it incredibly rewarding to start and finish a project, but I also love watching TikTok, scrolling through Instagram, discovering new needlepoint shops and designers, and planning what I will work on next.

Color of Praise Needlepoint
My current work in progress (WIP) is from this incredible designer who has truly made me fall in love with needlepoint and stitching large projects. I’m absolutely in love with how they use color and how their canvases really pop. Every stitch is a joy, and I can't wait to finish this into a pillow!

KCN Designers
The oyster canvases that KCN creates are irresistible! They have an oyster for each season, and the Christmas ones are especially stunning. I’m eager to start a KCN oyster collection, beginning with this beautiful summer design.

Rachel Barri
I recently joined a call with Rachel Barri hosted by The Stitch Needlepoint Club and learned more about the needlepoint industry and the design process. Along with the KCN Designers' oyster collection, I also want to start a Rachel Barri nutcracker collection. My goal is to stitch one each year! I think Rachel Barri’s canvases are stunning and so playful!

Bargello Needlepoint
I think one of the most exciting parts of needlepoint is that you can finish your piece into anything! Along with my many goals of having my home decked out in ornaments, nutcrackers, pillows, and eyeglass cases, I also love the idea of creating a purse to pair with beautiful summer outfits. I absolutely love this clutch from Bargello Needlepoint!
